Santa ~ Putting a Little Love in Your Heart

October 24, 2024

My inspiration behind this art piece is of my beloved Uncle Bubba. He is my only uncle by blood, and I adore him greatly. He is mostly responsible for my sense of humor and has such a special place in my heart. When I was growing up, he was the cool uncle always so much fun to be around and he still always knows how to keep me on my toes.

So, when I decided to paint Santa, my Uncle Bubba with that loving fun spirit came to mind. I just love his warm and infectious grin with his sparkly blue eyes, plus he has a larger-than-life personality to match. The original painting was a gift for him and my Aunt Darlene for Christmas.

He was my mother's only sibling, her older brother, by exactly 5 years to the date. She was his birthday present, even though he wanted a puppy for his birthday instead. He later got that puppy. My mother adored her big brother, and that love and adoration she had for him was magnetic, and I, too, have always felt that way about him. I am my mother's only child, so we all have a very tight bond.

At the time when I painted the original piece, my mother was still alive, and I told her I was painting something for him for Christmas, and I asked her if she would like to see it. She declined because she said she would wait for Christmas to be surprised. But little did we know that we were the ones that would be surprised, rather shocked and devastated is more like it. A few days prior to Thanksgiving, without warning my mom passed away suddenly.

Upon going to take care of my mother's funeral arrangements, the first thing that I did when I arrived back in Texas (since I live in Florida) was to go see my Uncle Bubba. In my hands, I held the painting of him as Santa. I don't know what compelled me to give it to him at that moment, but it really helped. Not only painting him as Santa which speaks to my heart, it will forever have a very special place that marks a pivotal time in my life. But this is not a sad piece, it brings me enormous joy and I know my mother would be more than delighted that I painted him as Santa.

I have decided to share with you this precious painting. This canvas wall hanging is a reproduction of the original Santa art piece that I gave to my adored uncle. My plan is to release my "Love for Santa" wall art hanging around November 2ndClick here for more info.
